Geographical Features & Climate

The temperature declines sharply from the top to the foot of Mt. Huangshan, it decreases by greater degrees in July, generally by around 0.6 กใc, and by 0.3 - 0.4 กใc in January. Its annual mean temperature is as low as 7.8กใc and its annual rang 20.8กใc only. Its climate is characteristic of maritime climate with more cloudy and foggy days and relatively less sunlit time ( 1810.2 hours on an annual average ). Its relative humidity culminates in July and August and reaches the lowest point in December and January with discrepancy of 30% between them. The high peaks block off the warm and moisture air current. Therefore vehement convection occurs when the warm and moisture air rising along the slope meets the cold air, and then produces the cloud and rain. The mountain has an annual precipitation of 2,395mm and 183 precipitation days and annual frost-free period of 258 days. The enormous relative height leads to rain down in the mountain and snow up the mountain. Its annual snowing days is 49.1 days on average, from 85 days to 28 days. The frequency of west-south wind blows more frequently than west-north wind.
